Michael S. Berlin, MD, MS

EyeLight, Inc. was founded by Michael Berlin, MD (President & Chief Science Officer) who is a board certified and subspecialty glaucoma fellowship trained ophthalmologist who has specialized in glaucoma for more than 30 years. He is the Founder and Director of the Glaucoma Institute of Beverly Hills, Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute, and member of the American Glaucoma Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He serves on the ANSI Z-136.3 Committee on Laser Safety and the ANSI Z-80 Committee on Glaucoma Devices, representing the industry and working closely with the FDA. Dr. Berlin is widely published and is regularly invited to lecture at national and international scientific conferences.

Dr. Berlin, following his medical training and residency at the U. of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and glaucoma fellowship at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York, began his work on ELT over 30 years ago, with a part of the team (see below) in W. Berlin, W. Germany in the 1980’s which developed LASIK. He was issued U.S. Patent 4,846,172 for the first generation of ELT in 1989 and multiple subsequent U.S. Patents covering laser based and implant based MIGS glaucoma therapies. He founded EyeLight, Inc. in 2003 which has filed additional broad IP both in the U.S. and internationally for the second generation ELT system.

EyeLight’s ELT technology presently has multiple medical publications plus industry magazine coverage, and further exposure from Dr. Berlin’s lecturing around the world. Numerous physicians in the U.S., Canada and EU have requested early production units.
